right now whenever my app calls ipfs add it takes 30+ seconds to add if it does it at all. infura seems to be down for pinning right now

Sorry for the delay in answerring.
We are in the process of rolling out a new architecture for our IPFS service that will greatly improve performance. While this is happening you may experience some timeouts and other problems. This particular issue might have been the result of a good old fashioned incident as well, please check our status page for declared incidents.
